Movie Review :Saints In Crime
The movie is about a couple(boyfriend and girlfriend) Bella(Martha Akomah) and her boyfriend James(Umar Krupp) who embark on a road trip to attend her parent's anniversary to the displeasure of Bella who didn't not like the trip and felt travelling by air would have been better and convenient. She had more reasons to complain when the car developed faults on their way but James was able to fix it.
They decided to stop by at a guest house to rest before they continued their journey but unknown to them the guest house engaged in the sales of human parts and they had fallen victims. It was difficult to communicate with the outside world and there was no way to escape .
The front desk officer tried to rape Bella and that was how she escaped courtesy James. She thought she had found help when she approached the church nearby and narrated her experience to the Priest (Paul Wilson)who unknown to her was the head of the illicit business but once again she was rescued by the policeman who came into the church when he heard noises
Bella told the policeman what she had saw and together they head to the hotel but the police was shot while questioning and Bella once again kidnapped and James ready to be slaughtered.
The Reverend Father's reason for engaging in human parts trafficking when asked was that leaders have promised and failed, colonisation fast returning as Asians were everywhere in the country etc.By the time James was to be slaughtered the dead man shot the doctor and Fr Damian took his pound of flesh by pricking him with a sharp object that finally killed him but he was able to untie James.
The couple finally escaped and out of paranoia and fear James killed an innocent man but at the end of it all they fled to safety.
The movie is a thriller and romantic one.it was straight to the point and the plot flowed in the right direction There was suspense as nobody would think a guest house is a killer den or would have thought that a priest would be involved in crime etc but these things happen in reality so it might not be totally strange .The sound ,acting in the movie was also firm.
Towards the end i didn't understand what a group of people which could pass for a vigilante group with local weapons and chanting songs were doing and their purpose,I don't know whether i should link it to the back up the policeman called for or just a group protecting their environment or having their gyration.
The movie is Produced by Henry Ikechukwu Simeon and directed by Leila Djansi.
Agreeable is my final judgement on the movie.
